The Conlon Census Return 1901

We see on the Census Return that our grandmother Bella Conlon is the youngest of 5 children living at the family home.

The Census for 32 Milford Street records the Head of Family as Eliza Conlon age 55, a widow born in    Co. Armagh, who could not read.

Bella aged 16, has an occupation described as  “smoother”.

She has two older sisters both also working in the mills-Martha aged 20 is a “linen weaver” and Sarah aged 21 is a “realer”.

There are two older brothers, James age 24, a widower with occupation “slater” and Michael aged 18 a “car driver”.

All of the children were born in Belfast City.

The Census Return only recorded the names of everyone at the family home on 31 March 1901. Considering Eliza’s age, she  may well have had older children who had moved out of the family home.

I have been told that the maiden name of Eliza Conlon was Eliza Donnelly.

At this point in time I have not researched the Conlon family tree any further.
